Coins in TikTok LIVE are how viewers send Gifts to the creators they enjoy watching. You buy them with real money, they sit in your TikTok balance, and you spend them a Gift at a time during a LIVE or on a video.

This guide walks through the full journey: where to find your balance, how coin packages are priced, paying in the UK, sending a Gift, and the spending controls worth switching on. It covers buying and sending only. For what individual Gifts cost, see our [TikTok LIVE gift prices guide](/blog/gifts-virtual-currency/tiktok-live-gift-prices-values-list).

  • TikTok LIVE coins are bought in the app from your Balance, then spent on Gifts.
  • The price per Coin depends on the package size and where you buy, so there is no single UK rate.
  • On a phone, payment normally goes through your Apple or Google app store account.
  • Free TikTok LIVE coin offers outside the app are a common scam route. Only buy through TikTok.
  • Spending controls and Family Pairing help keep Gifts under control.

What are coins in TikTok LIVE?

TikTok LIVE coins are a virtual item you purchase and then use to activate Gifts. TikTok's Virtual Items Policy for the UK and EEA describes Coins as a licence to use virtual items inside the platform. They are not money, cannot be sent to another person as cash, and are not a balance a creator can withdraw.

When you send a Gift, the Coins leave your balance and TikTok records the Gift for the creator under its own rewards system. New to the basics? Start with what TikTok LIVE is.

Where do you buy TikTok LIVE coins?

Coins live in your account Balance. Menu wording changes between app versions, but the route usually looks like this:

  1. 01Open TikTok and go to your Profile.
  2. 02Tap the menu icon, then Settings and privacy.
  3. 03Tap Balance.
  4. 04Tap Recharge (or Get Coins) to see the available coin packages.

You can also top up during a LIVE. Tap the Gift icon, and if you do not have enough Coins for the Gift you picked, TikTok offers a recharge without leaving the stream.

How does live coin package pricing work on TikTok?

TikTok sells Coins in packages, from small bundles to large ones. Its policy says the cost per Coin can differ according to how many you buy and where you buy them. In practice, buying in the app on an iPhone can show a different price from Android, and both can differ from buying on TikTok's website.

That is why we do not publish a pound price per Coin. Check the package list in your own account before paying, and note the exact Coin total you will receive, not just the price.

How do you pay for TikTok LIVE coins in the UK?

  • iPhone and iPad: purchases are billed through your Apple ID payment method.
  • Android: purchases are billed through Google Play, using the card or balance set up there.
  • Web: TikTok has offered Coin purchases on its website with card payment in some regions. Check what your account shows.

Whichever route you use, the payment confirmation comes from that store, so keep the receipt email. It is your record if anything goes wrong.

How do you send a Gift on TikTok LIVE?

TikTok's own guide to sending a Gift during a LIVE sets out the steps. In short:

  1. 01Join the LIVE you want to support.
  2. 02Tap the Gift icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. 03Pick a Gift. The Coin cost is shown on each one.
  4. 04Tap Send. The Coins come out of your balance straight away.

You can also gift some videos, not just LIVEs. TikTok explains that separately in sending a Gift to a video.

How to get free TikTok LIVE coins: what's real?

Searches for free TikTok LIVE coins are common, and so are the sites that exploit them. Generators, giveaways asking for your login, and cheap coin sellers outside the app risk your account and your money. Buying Coins through unofficial routes can also break TikTok's terms.

The safe answer: Coins come from TikTok's own Recharge screen. If TikTok runs a genuine promotion, it appears inside the app, not in a DM or a third-party site.

Do TikTok LIVE coins turn into diamonds?

Not directly for you as a viewer. When you send a Gift, TikTok rewards the creator in Diamonds under its own rules, and the creator receives a fraction of the value a viewer spent. There is no published coins-to-diamonds conversion rate you can rely on. Our guide to what diamonds are on TikTok LIVE explains the creator side.

How do you keep TikTok LIVE spending under control?

  • Check before you tap. Big Gifts can be one tap away from a small one.
  • Use app store controls. Apple and Google both let you require a password or approval for purchases.
  • Family Pairing. Parents can link to a teen's account and manage settings. TikTok also restricts Gifting by age.
  • Set yourself a budget. Buying a fixed package and stopping when it is spent is a simple habit.
